About gummy vitamins
Does my child need a vitamin supplement at all?
Not always. A child who eats a varied diet with fruit, vegetables, dal, milk and grains may not need one. Supplements help when there is a gap, for example a very fussy eater, a restricted diet, or a deficiency your doctor has found on a blood test. Your paediatrician is the right person to decide.
What is a gummy vitamin?
A soft, fruit-flavoured chew with vitamins and minerals mixed in. Chubears gummies are set with fruit pectin instead of gelatin, so they are vegetarian.
Are gummies as good as syrups or tablets?
The nutrients are the same kind. The big difference is that children actually take gummies every day, and a supplement that sits in the cupboard does nothing. Check the amount of each nutrient on the label, which we publish in full on each product page.
What age are they for?
The labels give a serving for children aged 5 to 17 and one for adults. For children under five, ask your paediatrician first. Chewy sweets can be a choking risk for toddlers.
How much sugar is in them?
Multivitamin: 1.5 g per gummy. Calcium: 2.4 g per gummy. Iron: 3.2 g per 2-gummy serving, part-sweetened with stevia. That is less than a teaspoon a day, but they are sweets, so brush teeth as usual.
Are they vegetarian, gluten-free and allergen-free?
All three are vegetarian and free from gelatin and gluten. The labels also list them as free from milk, eggs, soy, nuts, fish, wheat and sulphite.
Do they have artificial colours or flavours?
Colours come from curcumin and black carrot concentrate. Flavours are lemon, strawberry and mango.
Taking them
How many should my child take?
Multivitamin and Calcium: one gummy a day for children, two for adults. Iron: two gummies a day. Follow your doctor’s advice if it differs.
Can I give two Chubears products together?
Iron and calcium should be given at different times of day, because calcium reduces iron absorption. Before combining any two supplements, check the total dose with your paediatrician, especially when one contains iron.
What time of day is best?
Any time works. A fixed routine, such as after breakfast, makes it easier to remember. If a child gets a mild stomach upset, give it after a meal.
What if my child eats too many?
This matters most for iron. Accidental iron overdose is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children under 6. If a child eats several gummies, call your doctor or go to the nearest hospital. Keep the bottle closed and out of reach.
How should I store them?
In a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Do not refrigerate. Keep the lid closed.
